A Typical Day In Our Care:
David and Jessica both work from home, so guests are with someone throughout pretty much the entire day. Our guests may be alone while we run errands, go out for meals, social events, etc. so need to be okay with being left alone for at least 4 hours. For this reason, as mentioned above we aren’t best suited for dogs with separation anxiety.
Our home and nearing 8-year-old resident dogs are best suited for dogs that are equal parts play and relax. Those with unpredictable/destructive behaviors, high energy / no settle are, unfortunately, not a fit in our home.
We host SLOW and CONTROLLED introductions of all dogs, every time, every visit. We have found this is the healthiest & safest transition into our home, which ensures our guests arrive as stress-free as possible.
All dogs have consistent access to the yard for potty & play. We are big fans of fetch, lounging on the deck feeling the breeze, and snuggling on the couches out there. Dogs that require walks for potties will get loops around our block to fulfill their needs.
We accept 3 to 4 overnight guests at a time based on size and personality.
Want to add on walks:
Depending on what you booked, walks are around our quiet Forest Park / River Forest neighborhood. SOO many good sniffaris in our town. “Pampered” bookings get one daily 20-minute walk or you can book additional 30-minute solo walks with any visit. For all walks, we do require either a properly fitting harness or a martingale collar for safety purposes. We do not use aversive tools such as prong collars, e-collars, or choke chains. Additionally, for safety purposes we do not use retractable leashes.
Your dog's sleeping arrangement:
Your loved one is our loved one when in our home and will sleep on their dog bed in our room or they may wander out to the couch. Or if they require being in a crate overnight, we also have one if needed. Whatever your rules are, we abide by them.
Time we spend with them:
We LOVE to snuggle so we'll be spending plenty of time with them. Playing fetch, hanging in the yard, lots of petting. We spoil our campers with immense love. We stay home most nights during the week and tend to be homebodies on the weekends.
Dog Boarding Requirements
At Camp Rockford, we strive to provide a safe and comfortable environment for all our furry guests. To ensure the well-being of every dog in our care, we have specific requirements for day camp and overnight boarding:
Temperament Assessment: Prior to joining our pack, we conduct a temperament assessment to ensure compatibility with our home setting and our resident dogs.
Suitability for Our Environment: Our home is designed to accommodate dogs who thrive in a structured and calm setting. Dogs that display excessive barking or maintain high energy levels are not a suitable fit for our setting.
Safety Considerations: Dogs who exhibit unpredictable/destructive/aggressive behaviors, bark for attention, or are high energy & cannot relax around other dogs are, unfortunately, not a fit in our home as they may pose a risk to themselves and others in our environment. For this reason, we prioritize the safety of all guests and household members.
While we understand that every dog is different, it's essential to maintain a harmonious atmosphere for all our guests. If you have concerns about your dog's suitability for day camp or overnight boarding at Camp Rockford, please don't hesitate to contact us. We're happy to discuss alternative options or provide recommendations for your pet's care.
SMALL DOG PARENTS: Do you have a “little” and you’re curious if we host dogs under 20/30 lbs? WE DO!
Our dogs love small friends. We have baby gates if your little one needs time to adjust to “big dogs” we perform SLOW & controlled introductions EVERY time a dog enters and re-enters our household. Yes, every visit.
We have found that our dogs are great with dogs of any size so long as our guests are NOT afraid of dogs of any size. If your small baby fear barks at dogs bigger than them, we may not be your best fit. Barking invokes more barking (they are dogs after all) and then it stresses our new little friends out too much and we strive for HAPPY guests.
Complete our form, enter your dates and pet information, and we will schedule a meet and greet to ensure that we are your dog’s best fit!
